WILSONVILLE — The Shelby County Speedway hosted its 22nd Annual Championship Races, concluding the 2013 season of racing Oct. 12.
The night featured seven classes of racing, with tight competition in both the heat races and the feature events.
In the hobby class, Chris Howell was able to hold off Mike Garris in the feature to take the win. Marvin Stanford came home a close third.
In the Crate Late Model division, the blue No. 25 of Sam Hughes took an early lead and paced the field, winning over Ronnie Revis and Tim Peters.
In the Super Pony class, Eddie Pickett battled his father, Benny Pickett in a door-to-door, side-by-side race that saw the two cars never each other’s side. Eddie Pickett was able to get enough of his car out front, holding off his dad for the win.
The Open-Wheel Modified class feature race saw David Davis take his orange and white No. 9 from the back to the front after an early race spin. He marched through the field, holding off Tommy Moore and Keith Day for the win.
The Hogg class saw 17-year-old Clanton native Kyle Smith take another win, holding off James Ganey, Sr. and Perry Patino in close finish.
The Buzz division saw Sam Martin, Josh Wood and Allan Martin battle back-and-forth, with Sam Martin taking the lead and the win.
