Pelham falls in tri-match competition

The Panthers volleyball squad travelled to Hoover to take part in a tri-match with Hoover High and Guntersville. The trip turned out to be a bit of a disappointment for Pelham, as they failed to capture a single set, falling 0-2 in both matches.

In the first match, Pelham took on the Guntersville Wildcats. Set one saw the Panthers play the Wildcats close, but fall short, 20-25. The second set was a carbon copy of the first, although this time the Panthers were able to pull closer, dropping the set 22-25. Leading the way for Pelham in the first set were Caitland Smith with seven kills, Lauren Meadows with 16 digs and two aces. Lauren Bass also had two aces.

In the second match, the Panthers were again unable to take a set victory, falling to Hoover 12-25 and 20-25. Autumn Hiett, Emily Jackson and Josie Harwood all had two kills, Meadows had 11 kills, and again Meadows and Bass tied with aces, this time with one apiece.

The loss dropped Pelham to 11-23 overall, but the Panthers maintained a 4-2 record in area play, and will host the area tournament Oct. 22.
