Olan Turner Hyde Jr., age 86, of Birmingham, passed away Wednesday night, Oct. 16, 2013. A proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, he retired from Frisco Railroad. Olan was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a past member of Hillview Baptist Church. He was a member of Greystone YMCA and the Heardmont Travel Club.

Olan treasured playing on the Russ Arthur Senior Softball Team. He played, coached and umpired baseball and softball throughout his life, and was awarded with induction into the Central Alabama Softball Hall of Fame. He was also the winner of several Senior Olympic medals.

Olan was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Leslie Marie Hyde.

Survivors include his loving wife, Becky Hyde; one daughter, Joy Hand (George); five sons, Craig Hyde (Mary Ann), Mark Hyde (Eedie), Jeff Hyde (Lisa), Randy Archer (Karla) and Stephen Archer (Kristy); 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at noon on Oct. 19 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham. Burial in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Pelham. Memorial gifts may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 6690 Cahaba Valley Rd., Birmingham, AL 35242.
