Shelby County and Alabaster schools will again delay the start of the school day by two hours on Wednesday, Jan. 8, citing concerns of frigid early morning temperatures.
The two school systems announced the delays on Jan. 7 after weather forecasts anticipated lows in the mid to low teens for Jan. 8.
In addition to the school day starting two hours later than normal those two days, bus routes also will run two hours later than normal.
Breakfast will not be served those two days in Shelby County and Alabaster schools.
After the two-hour delay, the schools will run on their regular schedules, including afterschool programs.
“It’s just going to be too cold again,” said Alabaster School Operations Coordinator Jeff Atkins said, noting Alabaster and Shelby County school leaders discussed the delay before announcing it on Jan. 7.
