MONTEVALLO — A woman who was shot and seriously wounded at a Montevallo apartment complex Jan. 20 has been identified as 20-year-old Lauren George.

George’s fiance disclosed her identity to Fox 6 Jan. 21. Prior to George’s identification, several people took to Twitter to post thoughts and prayers.

“Just now hearing about what happened to Lauren and it blows my mind. George family you’re in my prayers,” read one tweet.

“Why does everything have to turn to violence? Praying for Lauren George and hoping she recovers after last night’s incident in Montevallo,” read another tweet.

George suffered a single gunshot wound at Falcon Manor Apartments in the 200 block of Overland Road. Montevallo police officers responded to reports of shots fired around 10:30 p.m. Jan. 20, according to a news release issued Jan. 21. by the Montevallo Police Department.

In a Jan. 21 phone interview with the Shelby County Reporter, Montevallo Police Chief Jeremy Littleton would not disclose the location of George’s wound or what kind of weapon was used. George, who is not a student at University of Montevallo, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The shooting occurred less than a mile from the university.

“We are attempting to locate witnesses as well as suspects,” Littleton said, adding that the shooting possibly stemmed from an argument. The Montevallo Police Department has not released additional information since issuing its news release.
