The Alabaster community came together to support children with autism on Jan. 17. Friday night marked the Fourth Annual Autism Awareness Night, sponsored by the THS basketball teams.

The annual event raises money for Mitchell’s Place, a local organization providing support to families affected by autism.

This year’s event raised $2275.21 for the organization.

Autism Awareness Night was started in 2010 by THS basketball coach Patrick Davis. Davis said he was proud of the support the community offers and said he hopes the tradition will continue in the future.

“Yet again the students of Thompson High School have shown tremendous generosity in raising funds for a great organization in Mitchell’s Place and awareness for the entire autism community,” Davis said. “We are excited to grow this event in the coming years.”
