Winter storm warning issued for Shelby County

The National Weather Service-Birmingham has advised a winter storm warning for all of Shelby County, in effect until 6 a.m. Jan. 29.

The warning is for ice, sleet and snow for most of the day Jan. 28, with the best chance for accumulation being between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., according to the report.

The highest threat area for significant ice and snow accumulation will be along and south of Interstate 20 and 59. Snow accumulations of 1-to-3 inches will be possible across the central and eastern portions of Central Alabama and at least a quarter-inch of ice in the southern counties with additional snow expected later, according to the report.

The NWA also issued a hard freeze warning for Shelby County from midnight to 9 a.m. Jan 29.
