Law Enforcement Explorer Competition set Feb. 22

The Alabama Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor Association will host its 2014 Law Enforcement Explorer Competition Feb. 22 at the University of Montevallo for youth ages 14-20.

Participants will compete in burglary response, arrest and search, crisis negotiation, crime scene investigation, domestic crisis intervention, traffic stop, traffic accident investigation and bomb response.

Law Enforcement Explorer Posts include the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the Birmingham Police Department, the Dalton Police Department, the Helena Police Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Pensacola (Fla.) Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Participants train at their respective agencies throughout the year and come together for the annual competition. The discipline and life skills participants develop readies them for a future in law enforcement.

Guest judges will include representatives of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama State Troopers, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Montevallo Police Department, the Birmingham Police Department and the ABC Board.
