HOOVER —Hannah Home Shelby Auxiliary hosted a membership coffee Feb. 17 at the Greystone home of Peggy DeVane.

Hannah Home Shelby Auxiliary was formed in March 2005 to help raise funds for Hannah Home Shelby, which provides shelter for homeless and abused women and children. More than 100 Auxiliary members support Hannah Home via donations, volunteering and fundraising events.

The Auxiliary has hosted several fundraising events featuring celebrities, including An Evening with Jane Seymour, A Recipe for Hope with Paula Deen, An Evening of Champions: Scoring a Victory for Hannah Home Shelby and Boots, Blues and Barbecue with Taylor Hicks. The Auxiliary will continue its fundraising efforts with its Spring Tablescapes event April 2 at Metro Church of God, 2800 Metropolitan Way, Birmingham.

Auxiliary President Tamara Moser urged those in attendance at the membership coffee to share their “time, talents and treasures” with the Auxiliary. Auxiliary membership is $35 per year.

“You get to know the residents and you get to know their hearts. It’s been a privilege to serve women who’ve been hurt,” Moser said.

All funds raised by the Auxiliary go toward Hannah Home’s operational expenses, said Auxiliary member Rita Wood, who also coordinates the Auxiliary’s Tablescapes event.

“Every penny that is brought in goes back to the home, to keep it going, so these women can have a place for refuge,” Wood said.
