An “eyesore” off 10th Court Southeast soon will be removed after the Alabaster City Council voted unanimously during its April 14 meeting to move forward with removing it.
The council agreed to accept the Alabaster Housing Abatement Board’s recommendation to remove the remains of a house at 7 10th Court S.E., which is behind the Waffle House restaurant near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Interstate 65.
“It has been deemed unsafe and an eyesore,” Ward 1 Councilwoman Sophie Martin said during the meeting. “Basically, it’s ready to be removed.”
Martin and Council President Scott Brakefield said the house has already fallen down, and said the city will move forward with removing the debris after giving the property owner a 30-day period to appeal the council’s decision.
“It’s basically just sitting in a pile, and we are just waiting for it to get cleaned up,” Brakefield said.
