Thompson takes Shelby County track and field title

The Thompson Warriors track teams took the Shelby County track and field championship held April 3 at Pelham High School. Both the boys and girls squad took overall titles, marking the fourth time in as many years that the boys team captured the overall county championship. It was the first time in four years that the girls team took the county title.
For the girls squad:
– Sarah Owens started the scoring by winning the shot put competition.
– The 4×800 relay team won gold. Team members included Cameron DeLoach, Shai Hunter, Anna Puckett and Erika Kulp.
– The girls squad also won gold in the 4×100 relay. Team members were Erika Kulp, Azariah Jackson, Katelyn Bowles and Lauryn Dancy.
– The 4×400 relay team won gold as well. Team members were Erika Kulp, Rebecca Harrell, Kiara Minex and Azariah Jackson.
Individual medal winners were:
Katelyn Bowles: took gold in the 100 hurdles
Rebecca Harrell: took bronze in the 100 hurdles and silver in the 300 intermediate hurdles
Erika Kulp: Gold — 800-meter
Kiera Minex: Bronze — 800; bronze — 400
Azariah Jackson: Silver — 100; gold — 200
Lauryn Dancy: Bronze — 100; bronze — 200
Anna Pucket: Bronze — 1600
The field events started the scoring early as the men’s’ squad went on to rout the rest of the field, outscoring the second-place team by a total of 246.5 points to 105.5 points.
On the track, the men’s 4×800 won gold. Team members were Jabari Alexander, Jordan Plunkett, Zack Carnes and Jonathan McVay.
– The 4×400 team won gold. Team members included Trennie Warren, Christian Jetzel, Jordan Plunkett and T.J. Farish.
– The 4×100 won gold. Team members were Jaalen Jones, Emmanuel Tait, Shawn Powell and T.J. Farish.
Individual medal winners were:
TJ Farish: Gold — triple jump; gold — long jump
Shawn Powell: Gold — high jump; bronze — Triple
Eric Reeves: Silver — triple; silver — 100
Brett Blackmon: gold — pole vault
Jaalen Jones: Gold — 100 (set meet record with 10.51 seconds); gold — 200
Emmauel Tait: Gold — high hurdles; gold — 300 intermediate hurdles
Craig Clark: Silver — 110 high hurdles
Chance Walker: Bronze —110 high hurdles
Michael Johnson: Gold — 1600; gold — 3200
Connor Murphy: Silver — 1600
Christian Jetzel: Bronze —Javelin throw
Nick Mobley: Gold — discus throw
