Wood takes 14th at NCAA regionals

DADE CITY, Fla. – The 2014 NCAA Division II South Region Women’s Golf Regional at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club came to a close on Tuesday. Montevallo freshman Elaine Wood was impressive throughout the tournament and finished tied for 14th place.
Wood ended her final round with a bang, birdieing four of the final seven holes.
Overall, Wood had 12 birdies over three days. That was the most out of any competitor at the regional tournament.
The Montevallo freshman also finished with an average score of 2.92 on par-threes. This tied her for the lowest average score on par-threes in the field.
Wood’s 10-over par 226 over the three day span is tied for the lowest score turned in by a Montevallo golfer at a regional tournament.
“I was thankful for the opportunity to be able to compete at the regional tournament,” said Wood. “Overall, I was happy that I gave myself a chance to advance to nationals. I look forward to the next three years and what they will bring.”
