SCSO to conduct safety checkpoints May 24-25

NORTH SHELBY — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will conduct planned traffic safety checkpoints in various areas May 24-25.
The checkpoint locations include:
- Alabama Highway 25 and Dunnavant Valley Road (between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. May 24; between 7 and 9 p.m. May 25)
- Alabama Highway 25 and Bear Creek Road (between 1 and 4 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. May 24; between 7 and 9 p.m. May 25)
“This area has a history of serious motor vehicle accidents, some of them with fatalities, during the spring season and the goal of this checkpoint is to raise awareness and safety,” read a news release issued by the sheriff’s office May 20.
Sheriff’s deputies at the safety checkpoint will be in uniform with reflective and visible traffic vests. In addition, sheriff’s office vehicles will be marked as law enforcement vehicles. The exact location will be established in the area to maximize the safety of the public and deputies alike.
Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution in the area and follow the directions of deputies present.
