O’Toole takes home Greystone Title

GREYSTONE — John Michael O’Toole beat just about everything in his path at the 2014 Greystone Inviational, including the field, the course — even the weather.
About the time the Pinson native and University of Cincinnati golfer sank his putt to seal the tournament win, huge thunderclaps began to break over the Founder’s Course at the Greystone Golf and Country Club, leading to festivities to be kept to a brief time in order to ensure the safety of those near the course.
O’Toole was quick to thank everyone he felt helped him in the win, from tournament director Tom Ramsey to a special assistant O’Toole had with him on the course.
“I just want to say thank you to Mr. Ramsey again, and thank you to my brother for coming out here and caddying for me,” he said.
O’Toole saved his best for last, as his 65 on the day was the lowest round of the tournament. He finished the day having shot an incredible 7-under par for the round to take go 13-under for the week.
“I enjoyed the course all week,” he said in a brief post-round interview.
O’Toole enjoyed quite a week, sinking a hole-in-one on Hole 14 and following up with an eagle on 15 to finish with 69 on June 19, the opening day of the tournament.
Drew Czuchry of Alpharetta, GA., came in second. Czuchry finished 3-under for the round and 7-under for the tournament, while Lee Hodges of Elmont, Ala., took home third with an even round and a 5-under tournament finish.
Former Spain Park golfer Robby Prater came home in a tie for 16th, finishing 1-under for the round and even for the tournament. Fellow Jaguar alumni Conner Pratt finished in a tie for 33rd, at 5-over on the tournament, but 2-under for the day.
For his efforts, O’Toole received $300 in Greystone Pro Shop store credit (due to amateur rules, monetary prizes cannot be awarded) as well as received two dozen free Callaway golf balls for his hole-in-one and eagle.
