ALABASTER – The Alabaster City Council will change its meeting schedule beginning in August in an effort to accommodate a council member’s work schedule.

Council members voted during their July 14 meeting to change their meeting schedule from the second and fourth Mondays to the first and third Mondays from August to September. The first September meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 2, because of the Labor Day holiday.

Beginning in October, the council meetings will move back to the second and fourth Mondays, and will remain on those nights for the remainder of the year.

All council meetings begin at 7 p.m. at the Alabaster Municipal Complex, which is at 1953 Municipal Way. Pre-meeting work sessions begin at 6 p.m. in the building’s conference room.

The council modified its schedule to accommodate Ward 5 Councilman Russell Bedsole’s work schedule with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

“We are just trying to help a fellow council member,” Council President Scott Brakefield said.

The City Council will meet on the following dates over the next several months: Aug. 4 and 18, Sept. 2 and 15, Oct. 13 and 27, Nov. 10 and 24 and Dec. 15 and 29.
