ALABASTER – Crews likely will begin repaving the road leading to the new Alabaster City Hall and Senior Center in the next few weeks after the City Council approved the repaving project during an Aug. 18 meeting.

The council accepted a $40,640 bid from the Wiregrass Construction company to complete the project, which will resurface 11th Avenue Southwest between Alabama 119 and the railroad tracks near Municipal Way.

The city previously applied for a grant to fund the repaving project, and was planning to complete the project this summer, but the city was not awarded the grant.

As a result, the repaving project will be funded with the city’s capital funds and restricted gas tax funds.

The sidewalks along the road will remain the same, said Alabaster City Manager George Henry.

Henry said crews likely will start the project within about 14 days of the Aug. 18 vote.
