ALABASTER –The Alabaster Police Department warned of dangerous road conditions and non-functioning traffic lights in the midst of a severe thunderstorm on Oct. 13.

Severe weather caused widespread power outages throughout Alabaster, including Alabaster City Hall, which was operating on generator power at about 3:20 p.m. Power returned to the building before the City Council’s pre-meeting work session, which began at 6 p.m.

At about 3:20 p.m., the Alabaster Police Department warned motorists of non-functioning traffic lights due to power outages. Traffic signals at the U.S. 31-Alabama 119 intersection and the Shelby County 11-Shelby County 68 intersection were not functioning, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

As of about 5:15 p.m., the police department reported all signals were working again.

“Remember, if traffic lights are out and no officer is on scene to direct traffic treat intersection as a four-way stop,” read the post. “Please be especially careful on Highway 68, as the roadway gets very slick in wet weather.”
