NORTH SHELBY–The Oak Mountain Lady Eagles had no problem defeating the Helena Lady Huskies on Friday, Jan. 30, with plenty of scoring down low earning a 64-19 victory on senior night.

Oak Mountain had a substantial size advantage over a smaller Helena team and the Lady Eagles used that to their advantage all night.

One of the four Oak Mountain seniors honored Friday night was Madison Pierce. She was honored earlier in the season for surpassing 1,000 total points in her career and she scored 22 points in her final home game as a Lady Eagle.

Oak Mountain Head Coach Allen McGowan praised the hard work the seniors provided for the years they were on the team.

“Great kids, quality kids, provide us great leadership and they’re good kids in the classroom and on the basketball court,” said McGowan.

The game was never really close and many Oak Mountain players saw action in the game as they finished the season on a high note.

“We felt like we had a slight advantage down there too so they did a good job of trying to take advantage the best they could and we were able to do that pretty well tonight,” McGowan said referring to his team’s play in the post.

Oak Mountain will play at Hoover Feb. 4 in the area tournament. The Lady Eagles finished the regular season with an 11-12 record.
