Multiple Falcons finish in top 25 in individual events at Samford Invite

BIRMINGHAM– 11 members of the University of Montevallo men’s and women’s track and field teams finished in the top 25 in individual events in the Samford Invitational, held Feb. 13-14 at the Birmingham Crossplex Arena.

Seven members of the men’s team posted top-25 finishes in individual events in the unscored event.

Freshman Alex Knight finished ninth in the pole vault with his leap of 13 feet, 9.25 inches.

Sophomore Donny Barnes finished 12th in the 1-mile run with his time of 4:20.99. Barnes also finished 22nd overall in the 3,000-meter run with his time of 8:44.11.

Freshman Timothy Farish finished tied for 16th in the long jump competition with his leap of 21 feet, 4.25 inches.

Sophomore Darrius Woody finished 19th overall in the 800-meter run with his time of 1:59.41. Junior Chris Pirrello came in 22nd overall with his time of 1:59.77.

Freshman Shawn Powell finished 20th in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 3 inches. Julius Davis came in 23rd overall with his leap of 39 feet, 4 inches.

Four members of the women’s team posted top-25 finishes.

Sophomore Anna Leinheiser came in 15th overall in the 1-mile run with her time of 5:08.71. Fellow sophomore Cheyenne Thompson came in 20th overall with her time of 5:13.63.

Freshman Yasmin Pettway finished 19th overall in the 60-meter hurdles with her time of 9.19 seconds.

Sophomore Katherine Terino finished 23rd overall in the 3,000-meter run with her time of 10:47.17.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Feb. 28 in the Columbus State University Invitational.
