HOOVER—The Hoover Board of Education approved the 2015-2016 academic calendar and updated the public on the search for a new superintendent during a March 9 meeting at Spain Park High School.

The BOE introduced a proposed calendar for the 2015-2016 academic year during a Feb. 9 meeting, and requested public feedback. The calendar, which can be found on the Hoover City Schools website, included 180 instructional days.

“We appreciate very much the feedback from the public,” BOE President Donna Frazier said. “I believe there were 57 emails that we received.”

Frazier explained the BOE read and considered each email.

The calendar approved on March 9 is identical to the proposed calendar, with the exception of graduation dates for Spain Park and Hoover high schools. Spain Park High School graduation will be May 25 and Hoover High School graduation will be May 26.

Following the unanimous approval of the 2015-2016 academic calendar, Frazier updated the public on the search for a new superintendent.

A team of education consultants with the Alabama Association of School Boards, headed up by Dr. Kendy Behrends, is leading the search.

“I got an email today from Kendy Behrends. She got me a lot of info,” Frazier said, adding Behrends said the search is “on target.”

The job posting for the Hoover City Schools superintendent position was listed on Feb. 17, and on April 14, “five candidates will be revealed” during a special called meeting at Spain Park High School, Frazier said.
