Briarwood stays perfect in Lake Martin Classic with win over Valley

ALEXANDER CITY – Down one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs and two strikes working against him, Briarwood’s Carson Eddy took a swing at an offering from Valley pitcher Mitchel Myers and connected, driving the ball into right field for a double to extend the game. Eddy’s hit sent new life coursing through the Lions bench, and after Jake Morris drew a walk directly after Eddy, the comeback effort was in full swing.
Pierce Merry followed Morris and turned the first pitch he saw into a walk-off single to right field, as both Eddy and Morris come home and gave the Lions the win and maintain their perfect record in the Lake Martin Classic.
Briarwood, currently ranked ninth in class 6A is participating in the weeklong tournament in Alexander City and moved to 4-0 on the week with the win against Valley. The game was a pitch-by-committee affair from the mound for Briarwood, as Sam Strickland, Morris, Ross Thompson and Harrison Cain all saw action on the mound.
Briarwood advanced to 18-5 with the win and will take on Handley in the semifinals of the tournament on Thursday afternoon for a spot in the finals on Thursday night.
