PELHAM – Those looking to enjoy the spring weather while honoring the memory of a fallen Pelham police officer will have a chance to do so on Thursday, May 7.
The Philip Mahan Davis Foundation will hold its annual memorial golf tournament at Pelham’s Ballantrae Golf Club beginning at noon.
The foundation began hosting the tournament in 2010 in memory of Davis, who was shot and killed by Bart Wayne Johnson during an early morning traffic stop in December 2010 on Interstate 65.
Since then, the tournament has grown significantly, and typically packs the golf course with teams, said Andy Easterling, who is working to organize this year’s event.
“We usually have full capacity,” Easterling said during an April 16 phone interview. “We have had some great turnouts.”
Registration for the tournament is $96 per person or $384 per four-person team.
Several levels of sponsorships are also available. A $250 sponsorship comes with a tee and green sponsor sign, a $500 sponsorship includes a tee and green sponsor sign and entry for one team, a $1,000 sponsorship includes a sponsor sign on each cart, entry for one team and two rounds of golf at Ballantrae and a $2,000 sponsorship includes a banner at registration, a tee and green sponsor sign, entry for one team and four rounds of golf at Ballantrae.
Deadline for registration is Thursday, April 30.
All money raised during the tournament will be used to support first responders in need and their family members. The foundation also is working to establish a scholarship for local students interested in pursuing criminal justice degrees in college.
