Professional photography studio opens in Old Town Helena

HELENA–Jana Sobel has a passion for photography that began in 2010, and in the past five years that passion has grown into a career.
In January, Sobel purchased and renovated a house in Old Town Helena located at 767 Second St. where her business, 205 Photography, is housed.
Along with 205 Photography, two other photography businesses have moved or will move into the space. Heather Mishea Photography and Photography by Michelle.
Each business specializes in different types of photography and they will cater to different customers’ needs.
205 specializes in family photography, engagements, children, seniors, bridal, head shots, corporate and real estate photography.
Heather Mishea specializes in high school seniors, team photos and prom photography and Photography by Michelle specializes in newborn photography.
Photography did not start out as a passion for Sobel, who received a degree in mechanical engineering at UAB.
“I took my first photography class to want to have decent pictures of my children,” said Sobel. “When I started having a family and wanted to get better at it I realized I really liked it and then when I had people asking me to take their pictures and telling me I should start charging it clicked. Over the years, I structured it more and turned it into a business.”
Sobel conducts the majority of her business by using word-of-mouth and through social media.
When the house in Old Town came up for sale, Sobel described it as something she “had to have.” The house includes large windows providing ample lighting that makes for an ideal photography studio in the heart of Old Town Helena.
“It’s a great location and the people here are wonderful,” said Sobel. “We had a great turnout for First Friday and I just love having my business in Old Town.”
Currently 205 does shoots by appointment only, but anyone is encouraged to walk in or call 587-5262 to make an appointment. More information can be found at 205photography.com
