In addition to maintaining a 4.3 GPA at school, Beyler has served as president of the Alabaster Teen Council and is working three jobs so she can purchase her own car.

Once word of Beyler’s involvement reached the readers of a statewide magazine for parents of college-bound students, its readers took notice.

Potential Magazine is a publication for Alabama parents with college-bound teens. In each issue, high-achieving students in seventh-12th grade are featured as Teen Spotlights and compete for the annual “Reach Your Potential” scholarship and the Reader’s Choice scholarship.

Beyler recently was named the sole recipient of the magazine’s 2015 Reader’s Choice $250 scholarship, and was one of a select few students featured as a Teen Spotlight in the May-March 2014 issues of Potential Magazine.

The Reader’s Choice scholarship winner was chosen through an open voting poll from readers of Potential Magazine. Beyler was selected out of 25 other high achieving finalists, according to the magazine.

“We love spotlighting teens and gaining advice from their parents,” Potential Magazine publisher Pam Mashburn wrote in a statement.

Teens featured are nominated by their school or community leaders for excelling in one or more of the following areas: Academics, business, leadership, philanthropy, overcoming adversity, citizenship and community service, athletics and the arts. Potential’s advisory board then selects finalists from four regions in Alabama: Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile and Montgomery.
