HOOVER—Family is important at Inverness Vineyard Church, and the church has a couple fun events planned just in time for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

On Saturday, May 9, mothers and sons of all ages are invited to stop by Game Zone in Pelham for the second edition of Mother/Son Laser Tag from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event is $15 per person, and includes pizza, games and laser tag.

“I have kids who are in high school coming with their moms and kids who are six coming with their moms,” Inverness Vineyard Church children’s pastor Suzanne Williams said. “I hope that it’s just a sweet time of bonding.”

Mothers and sons will get to “get out there and get active” in two games of laser tag, the winning team will be given a medal and bragging rights until next year’s faceoff, Williams said.

“Last year, I think the moms won a game and the sons won a game,” Williams said. “It was awesome! The boys were so stoked that the moms would even put on a laser vest.”

On June 19, Inverness Vineyard Church is hosting the annual Daddy/Daughter Dance. This year’s theme is “under the sea.”

“It’s one of my sweetest events,” Williams said. “It’s a fun night of dancing and we do an annual limbo contest.”

Fathers and daughters are invited to come out for a full dinner and a night of fun and dancing. The cost is $23 per couple, and $3 for each additional daughter.

Williams said she hopes events like Mother/Son Laser Tag and the Daddy/Daughter Dance will help families create strong bonds.

“We value the whole family and we want to pull them together as much as possible,” Williams said. “It is important to have a close-knit family unit. We give them opportunities where they can bond and where they can form lasting memories.”
