Chester Johnson, age 81, of Talladega, and formerly of Chelsea, passed away Friday, May 8.
After retiring from U.S. Steel with 30 years of service, Chester drove for Baggett Transportation for 17 years. He was a long-time member of Chelsea Church of God, and was a Mason for more than 50 years with lifetime membership.
Chester was predeceased by his parents, Lee and Pauline Johnson; wife of 51 years, Mildred Lee “Flip” Johnson; and one brother, Fred Roland Johnson.
Survivors include Chester’s wife, Ella Thomasine Hamm Johnson; one daughter, Ann Johnson Hunter of Chelsea; one grandson, Ches Harris; one sister, Dorothy “Dot” England (Pierce); sister-in-law, Faye Johnson; and a large extended step-family.
Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, May 10 at Chelsea Church of God, with the celebration of Chester’s life immediately following at 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at K-Springs Cemetery, Chelsea.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
