HELENA–OnMark Physical Therapy in Helena opened their doors a little more than a month ago, and since settling in at their location at 2600 Highway 58, the office is now ready to help Helena residents get on the road to recovery.
OnMark Physical Therapy is part of a large national company and the Helena clinic is one of the newest to open in the Birmingham area.
“Helena did not have a physical therapy facility and I knew there was a need for it,” said Clinic Director Jennifer Spencer.
Spencer is from the Birmingham area and recently moved back to the area after living in Atlanta for a period of time.
The OnMark Physical Therapy location currently has Spencer and one other employee and the plans are to add part-time technician help and to possibly add more physical therapists down the road once the clinic becomes established.
OnMark offers a little bit of everything including physical therapy, post operation care, tendonitis as well as work with pediatrics and geriatrics.
“My favorite thing about physical therapy is that every day is different,” said Spencer. “It’s rewarding to see patients improve their functional levels. In this profession we get to know the patients a lot better because we do see them several times a week. We develop a deeper, stronger relationship with them as opposed to just going to see your doctor for five minutes.”
Some of Spencer’s qualifications include being a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, Certified Dryneedling Practitioner, Certified Selective Functional Movement Assessment, completed an 18 month long orthopedic residency and is a certified APTA clinical instructor.
Spencer also holds a bachelor’s degree of exercise science from Auburn University and completed physical therapy school at the Medical University of South Carolina.
