HELENA–A brand new women’s boutique and custom furniture store named Grey Street Boutique is now open for business in Helena.
Owner Tenille Moore said her family moved from Tuscaloosa and were searching for a good location in the Birmingham area and ultimately decided on coming to Helena.
Moore has twin boys and now that they are older in age, she has been able to focus more on the store and one of her hobbies that includes making unique furniture.
“Grey Street is a women’s boutique and we do carry a little bit of men’s stuff,” said Moore. “We carry jewelry and purses that are one-of-a-kind that I try and get from different places and then me and my husband also do furniture.”
The furniture is what sets apart the boutique and the pieces sold in the store are handmade and made out of old barn wood.
“We build headboards out of antique doors and we have a bunch of old barn wood, so we build coffee tables, end tables, coat racks and just anything they can think of,” said Moore. “We also redo furniture if somebody has something that they don’t like but don’t want to get rid of. I like interacting with people, but if I had to pick one part of it, I love doing the furniture because I love making stuff and making stuff people like.“
Moore graduated from the University of Alabama and worked in retail throughout college and she just loves the idea of having a store and having numerous things to sell.
When asked how she came up with the name “Grey Street,” Moore chuckled and said, “I’m a huge Dave Matthews Band fan. I couldn’t come up with something I liked and that was my favorite song so I just thought it was a cool name and something different.”
Grey Street is located at 123 Ace Place beside Helena True Value Hardware. Their current business hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
