HELENA–To celebrate the upcoming Blue Moon phenomenon on Friday, July 31, Helena’s Coal Yard Bar and Grill will be hosting a “Once in a Blue Moon” event from 5-11 p.m.
A blue moon is described in astronomy as a full moon, which doesn’t quite fit in with the months in our calendar according to Timeanddate.com. Blue moons are rare and that’s where the term ‘once in a Blue Moon’ is derived.
A modern day definition of a blue moon is also described as when there are two full moons in one month, according to Moongiant.com.
Coincidentally, on July 31 the Blue Moon Brewing Co. of Golden, Colo., will be celebrating their 20th anniversary and the Coal Yard will be bringing both together for a fun event to celebrate both milestones.
Rosalie Oetting, special events coordinator for Coal Yard, said that a marketing team from Blue Moon Brewing Co. would be on site doing giveaways while the band Intermission performs for those in attendance.
Also included at the “Once in a Blue Moon” event will be a raffle drawing for a telescope to view the lunar event.
Blue Moon beer will be on tap for $4 per pint at the event, according to the event details.
Coal Yard Bar and Grill is located at 4085 Helena Road.
