Karen Karmel “Kay Kay” Slaughter
Ashville

Karen Karmel “Kay Kay” Slaughter, age 53, of Ashville, formally of Columbiana, in Shelby County, passed away Tuesday, July 21.
Most everyone knew Karen by her love of people and by her gracious and generous nature. She was an avid gift-giver, a thoughtful sister, and a mother at heart — whether her mothering was directed toward her nieces and nephews, or toward her beloved collie, Piccadilly. She will be fondly remembered for her graceful countenance, quick-witted humor, and, of course, her signature red lips.
Her father, Dr. Thomas Samuel Slaughter, II, predeceased Karen.
Her survivors include her mother, Sarah King Slaughter; sisters, Tami Alice Slaughter, Kenya Slaughter Walker, and Ettice Slaughter Wilson (Eric); brothers, Dr. Thomas Samuel Slaughter, III (Linda), Claude Garrett Slaughter (Sarah), and John Mack (Ginger); 10 nieces, eight nephews, and a host of grand-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at noon, Friday, July 24, at Charter Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m.
Charter Funeral Home directing.
