The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bessemer will host a family history event in August, which will be open to all Shelby County residents.

Families and individuals are invited to attend RootsTech Family Discovery Day on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This free half-day event is one of inspirational messages, instructional classes and interactive activities for family members ages 3 and older.

Come discover and connect with your families across generations. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced family historian, there’s something at Family Discovery Day for everyone.

The event will begin with a 50-minute opening session followed by classes of 50 minutes each. Some of the classes offered are: Using tablets and phones to do family history on the go, DNA – Getting started in genetic genealogy, African-American – Special considerations and websites and Hispanic – Special considerations taught in Spanish language. An exhibit hall will also be featured with displays from local genealogical and historical societies.

This genealogical event will be hosted by the Bessemer Alabama Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bessemer at 813 Briarwood Drive.
