Funeral services for Mr. Carey A. Pickett, 66, who entered into rest Tuesday, July 28, will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church, Herrick Street, Rensselaer, NY, where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. All are welcome to attend. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush, NY.
Mr. Pickett, a U.S. Army Veteran, was a native of Pea Ridge, but made North Augusta his home for the past 29 years. A social worker at the VA Medical Center who retired with over 30 years of service, Carey was compassionate and cared deeply for those he served. He was an attentive and comforting listener who inspired confidence in others. Though a private person, he would have done anything for anyone.
Carey was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was an avid foxhunter and a former President of the Alabama State Foxhunter’s Association.
Mr. Pickett was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Minnie Pickett, and a sister, Betty Hall.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Leonella Pickett; son Justin (Amy) Pickett, Niskayuna, NY; sisters Faye Lovelady, Henrietta McNeal, Montevallo, and Dean Thornell, Montgomery; and grandchildren, Luke and Finn Pickett.
Mr. Pickett was a member of Open Door Community Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church at PO Box 204907, Augusta, GA 30917 or to Free Will Baptist Children’s Home, PO Box 8, Eldridge, AL 35554.
