FROM STAFF REPORTS

MONTEVALLO–The University of Montevallo, the city of Montevallo and the Montevallo Arts Council will celebrate the new academic year and the eclectic nature of the community with Montevallo Artwalk, themed “Art Squawk: Put a Bird on It” on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 5-9 p.m. in downtown Montevallo to welcome back our “Falcons” to the nest of Montevallo. The “Put a Bird on it” themed event is migrating to include a celebration of nature, conservationism, and upcycling.

To date, approximately 50 artists and vendors are registered to participate.

In addition to being a lively night on the town, Montevallo Artwalk is an initiative to support downtown businesses and draw the university into the community while highlighting both the local and university art communities.

Artists will set up booths along Main Street and along the University Promenade to display and sell their work. This event will also include artistic demonstrations.

To further celebrate the theme, there will be a Lowe’s Build-it Workshop for children starting at 5 p.m. Children will have the opportunity to work with real tools, building a project they will be proud to display. This artistic activity is free to children.

Live music also adds to the “street party” atmosphere. During Artwalk, bands will perform behind the Main Tent located at 710 North Boundary Street in downtown Montevallo.

The lineup includes Man of Willow and The Tribe at 5 p.m., Lovelight the Messenger at 6 p.m., Chase Stewart at 7 p.m. and Drew Granthum at 8 p.m.

At the conclusion of Artwalk, Eclipse Coffee & Books and Main St. Tavern will host special musical entertainment.
