WESTOVER—The Westover Fire Department is known for keeping citizens safe from fire, and now the department is lending a helping hand in the fight against breast cancer. From Aug. 5 to Sept. 4, the fire department is selling T-shirts to raise money for breast cancer research.

This year’s shirts are pink and feature a back design that reads, “City of Westover Fire and Rescue, funding research… saving lives!”

Shirts come in a long sleeve and short sleeve style, and are available in sizes small to triple extra large. Short sleeve shirts cost $15 each and long sleeve shirts cost $25 each. Orders can be placed by emailing Westover Fire Chief Kelly Morris at kmorris@westoveralabama.org or Tonya Calamusa, administrative to the chief, at tcalamusa@westoveralabama.org.

All proceeds from the T-shirt sale benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The T-shirt sale fundraiser is an annual tradition for the Westover Fire Department, and has grown in popularity over the years.

“This will be our fourth year,” Morris said. Although Morris ran the sale on his own, he said recently “it just got a little bigger than I could handle myself.”

Involvement in the fundraiser extends beyond the Westover Fire Department, Morris said, noting the town’s support.

“It’s headed up by the fire department, but we get the whole city involved,” Morris said.

Although the T-shirt sale has garnered strong support in the past, Calamusa said she hasn’t received many orders for shirts this year.

“This year is not as popular as it has been in the past,” Calamusa said. “I really don’t understand why.”

Shirts will be available to order from the fire department until Sept. 4.
