HELENA–Wet weather didn’t put a damper on the celebration held at the Maplewood Lane Assisted Living facility on Sunday, Aug. 30.

The assisted living facility located at 223 Tucker Rd was celebrating 20 years of business in the Helena community and many Maplewood residents, staff members and families were in attendance to acknowledge the milestone.

The celebration was held from 2-4 p.m. and included refreshments, entertainment, door prizes, guided tours of the facility and more.

Stephanie Palmer, care transitions coordinator for Amedisys Home Health, was on hand for the celebration and said that her and her team have provided wellness and fall prevention for residents of Maplewood Lane for many years.

“We’ve been coming out here a long time providing home care for the residents,” said Palmer. “We keep the residents safe and out of the hospital through education and hands on care.”

Barbara Huffstetler, RN, ALA II, has been with Maplewood for three years and discussed why she enjoys the Maplewood Lane facility so much.

“We provide a more homelike atmosphere and individual care is greater and whoever comes here becomes family,” said Huffstetler. “We’re Helena’s best kept secret and I want to open it up to anyone or anybody.”

“Maplewood Lane is an assisted living/respite care facility that opened in 1995 and is licensed by the State of Alabama. Our highly trained, experienced, and caring staff truly enjoys caring for the elderly and adults with special needs. Residents will be encouraged to live an active life through the many social activities we offer. Members of the Helena Police and Fire Departments, as well as Helena Mayor Mark Hall also made appearances at the celebration.
