ALABASTER – The locally based Psi Xi Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., recently helped to ensure kids in need will have supplies to succeed in the classroom.

Through the sorority’s “One Million Backpacks” initiative, AKA members collected backpacks and school supplies to distribute to local children who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford them.

After collecting supplies and backpacks, sorority members donated 29 backpacks and a table full of supplies to Thompson Middle School on Aug. 16.
