HELENA–Students and teachers at Helena Intermediate School are gearing up to participate in a five-day coin drop fundraiser event to help raise funds to purchase new technology for the school.

Students are encouraged to start collecting pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters for the coin drop.

The goal is to raise $15,000 and all of the money raised will help the HIS PTO purchase a class set of Chromebooks and a cart so each grade level will have their own.

The goal for the week is to collect coins while also celebrating with a spirit week.

Monday, Sept. 14, has been deemed “50s dress up day” and students are encouraged to wear penny loafers and bring in as many pennies as possible.

Tuesday, Sept. 15, will be a “necklaces and neckties” theme and students are encouraged to bring in as many nickels as possible.

Wednesday, Sept. 16, will feature a “dimes and disco” theme where students are encouraged to bring dimes and dress in 70s style clothing.

Thursday, Sept. 17, students should bring in as many quarters as possible while dressing like royalty for the “queens and kings” theme.

Lastly, on Friday, Sept. 18, bills and checks will be accepted for a “show me the money” theme and students are encouraged to dress in 80s style clothing.

Classes will compete on a day-to-day basis against other classes in their grade level to be the overall top class in the school each day and at the end of the week.

Some of the prizes given for each top class per grade level will include extra recess, a yummy treat at the end of the day and the overall top class for the week will receive a limo ride to Top it Off.

If the school reaches their goal of $15,000, HIS Principal Kathy Paiml and HIS Assistant Principal Genet Holcomb will dress in prisoner clothes for the day and be locked up in “jail” during the lunch period. They will also hold signs during carpool and bus duty thanking parents for supporting the fundraiser.
