A Shelby County grand jury indicted Timothy Shane Lowery, who lists an address on Shelby County 260 in Maylene, on one felony count of first-degree sexual abuse during its August term, according to Shelby County Circuit Court records.

The indictment alleges Lowery did “intentionally subject to sexual contact another person … who was less than 12 years of age” between Jan. 1, 2004, and Jan. 1, 2005.

After the grand jury indicted Lowery, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office took the suspect into custody and booked him into the Shelby County Jail on Sept. 12. Lowery was released from jail on Sept. 13 after posting a $25,000 bond.

Lowery originally was arrested by the Alabaster Police Department on Jan. 29 and charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12. According to his arrest warrant, Lowery allegedly subjected a juvenile to sexual contact on Dec. 15, 2004.

The sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 charge was bound over to a grand jury on April 8, and the grand jury returned an indictment on the first-degree sexual abuse charge.

Lowery also was indicted on a felony second-degree theft of property charge on June 25 after he allegedly stole a 14-foot john boat valued at $1,500 on April 14.
