Woman arrested for allegedly aiding inmate’s escape

COLUMBIANA – A Montevallo woman was arrested Oct. 5 for allegedly helping an inmate escape from his assigned job location in Shelby County on Aug. 19.

Jaimmie Anne Cook, 36, was charged with one felony count of permitting or aiding the escape of an inmate and was booked in the Shelby County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

According to court documents, Cook, who lists an address on County Road 969 in Montevallo, allegedly “did on or about Aug. 19, 2015, intentionally aid or attempt to aid Coty Baker, in effecting an escape from a penal facility … Childersburg Work Release.”

Baker, 32, was reported missing from his assigned job location in Sterrett on the afternoon of Aug. 19.

Baker was recaptured soon after his escape, according to Alabama Department of Corrections Public Information Manager Bob Horton.

Permitting and aiding escape in the first degree is a Class C felony. If convicted, Cook could face up to 10 years in prison.
