PELHAM— Proving you are never too old to dress up for Halloween, Ballantrae Golf Club is hosting its annual Halloween Four-Person Scramble Saturday, Oct. 31.
This is the 11th year Ballantrae has hosted this event. Hal Brown, head golf professional at the club, said it’s always a fun day for the golfers.
“It ties into Halloween, but it’s mainly for our members, giving them an opportunity to play in a tournament,” Brown said.
Although the event was designed with members in mind, Brown said the scramble is open to the public. The entry fee is $37 for members and $83 for guests and includes the cart fee, green fee for guests and the prizes for the gross and net winning teams.
Tee times begin from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Each player will hit a shot. The team will choose the best one and play from within one club length from where the chosen ball lies. This procedure will be the same for every shot until the ball is holed out.
Prizes will be awarded in both net and gross divisions. Every team will be eligible to win a prize in both divisions, but may win only one prize with gross scores taking precedence over net results.
If a player does not have a USGA handicap or has not played in five Ballantrae Dogfights, his/her handicap will be set at zero.
Brown said they have tried to get their participants to dress up for the event in previous years, but it hasn’t been as successful as they would like. They are trying to bring it back this year.
The player with the most creative Halloween costume will win a prize. Brown said they’ve only awarded it once before.
The event usually brings about 30 golfers out to Ballantrae Golf Club, and Brown said they would love to see more people come out.
To register for the tournament, call 620-4653.
“It’s fun,” Brown said. “We’d love to have even more people playing in it.”
