HARPERSVILLE – Coosa Valley opened the 2015-16 basketball season in a big way on Monday, Nov. 9 with a 70-30 win over visiting South Montgomery Academy. The game was head coach Gerald Montgomery’s first game back on the sidelines since his retirement from Billingsley High School in 1999. Montgomery was the head coach at Billingsley for 28 years before stepping down, and is now in his first year as the athletic director and boys basketball coach for the Rebels.
The Rebels had a tough slog in 2014-15 and were only able to come out on top in a few contests. Montgomery is hoping to change that in his time at Coosa Valley, and the Rebels took a step in the right direction with the season-opening win.
Easton Hopkins led all scorers with 21 points while Landon Harmon had 18, Fisher Williams added 13 and Tyler Warren had 10 as the four combined for 62 of the Rebels 70 points.
Coosa Valley moved to 1-0 with the season opening win.
