Come to the First Baptist Church of Columbiana and take your picture with Santa, get some pancakes and go HoHoHome!

The Christmas pancake breakfast is sponsored by the Girl Scout Troop No. 564 to raise funds for their Christmas service project “Wade’s Wagons,” which provides toys and crafts for sick children at Children’s Hospital. Jane McDaniel is troop leader.

“The troop helped last year with this same project,” said McDaniel. “Kim White, Wade’s mom, asked if we could help again this year. The money we raise will buy crayons, markers, coloring books, notepads, drawing pads, toys, stuffed animals, movies/DVDs, activity books, anything that a sick child can do while in the hospital. We hope to fill up a whole wagon, maybe more!”

Wade White was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 2013, a chronic illness where a person’s immune system attacks the gastrointestinal tract.

White, son of Kim and Ben White of Wilsonville, has unfortunately spent way too many days at Children’s Hospital due to the painful, acute Crohn flares.

He started “Wade’s Wagons, a fundraising drive to fill toy wagons with games and crafts to occupy children’s time while in the hospital.

The Christmas HoHoHome Pancake Fundraiser is Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9-11:45 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Columbiana, 208 North Main Street in Columbiana.

Pancake plates are $3. Santa will be there for pictures, cost is a donation to the wagon, toy, coloring book, etc. But bring your own camera! All money raised will buy items for Wade’s Wagon.

McDaniel started Troop No. 564 in 2014 that serves Columbiana, Wilsonville and Shelby area for girls, kindergarten through 12th grade.

She was a Girl Scout while at Elvin Hill Elementary School. She graduated from Shelby County High School in 2009 and is a NREMT-Paramedic at UAB.

McDaniel is the director and founder of Alabama NEGU, a group that is raising funds to place ADA swings in all Shelby County city parks.

The troop meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Columbiana Rec Building at 5 p.m.

Membership fees are $15; uniforms cost $35. For information, call McDaniel at 296-0818, resqchk1990@gmail.com or Facebook, Girl Scout Troop No. 30564.
