Lady Eagles hold on against Pelham

PELHAM – The Pelham Lady Panthers lost to Oak Mountain 47-35 on Tuesday night at Pelham High School. The Panthers trailed only by four points at the half, but a 17-4 Eagles third quarter was the difference in the game.
In the first quarter, a Jordan Allison driving layup cut the Eagles lead to 3-2 with 7:05 in the first quarter. Another Allison layup gave Pelham a 4-3 lead with 6:47 left in the quarter. With 6:15 left in the quarter, Jamila Wilson hit a 3-pointer to give the Panthers a 7-5 lead. With 4:50 left in the quarter, Sawyer Martin hit a 3-pointer from the corner to give Pelham a 10-6 lead. With 2:26 left in the quarter, Daniela Ramirez hit a 15-footer to give Pelham a 12-8 lead. An Allison steal and layup with :25 seconds to go put Pelham up 14-8. An Alexis Eisenberg layup put Pelham up 16-10 with :01 second to go in the first quarter to give Pelham a 16-10 first quarter lead.
In the second quarter, the Panthers (2-2) had a hard time scoring as Oak Mountain outscored Pelham 13-3 in the quarter. With 3:55 to go in the half, Wilson hit two free throws to tie the game at 19-all, but the Eagles scored the next four points for a 23-19 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, the Panthers were outscored 17-4 to give Oak Mountain an insurmountable advantage. The Lady Eagles controlled the pace of the game and were able to keep Pelham off the scoreboard almost completely on the way to racking up a 40-23 lead. Oak Mountain outscored Pelham in the second and third quarters by a combined score of 30-7.
In the final frame, the Panthers cut the Lady Eagles lead to nine points but that was as close as Pelham could get late in the game. Oak Mountain outscored Pelham 5-2 in the last four minutes of the game for a 47-35 Oak Mountain win.
For Oak Mountain, Jacoby Sims had 12 points and Cassady Greenwood added 10 points. For Pelham, Allison was the leading scorer in the game with 17 points. Oak Mountain moved to 2-1 on the season while Pelham dropped to 2-2.
