HELENA–Reagan Curtis, a senior attending Helena High School, has made the decision to further her softball career at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

SIUE is a NCAA Division I school that is a part of the Ohio Valley Conference. In 2014, the softball team won their first OVC Conference Championship and received a bid to compete in the NCAA tournament. In 2015, SIUE was the OVC regular season champion.

On Nov. 12, Curtis was surrounded by family and friends as she signed her National Letter of Intent.

“I am beyond blessed to have family, friends and coaches that support me so much,” said Curtis. “I give all the glory to God for allowing me to play the sport I love and cherish and will continue to over my next four years at SIUE. I am really looking forward to playing softball for Coach Montgomery and Coach Jones.”

Curtis plays centerfield and throws left handed but bats from the right side of the plate.

She started playing high school softball under Coach Amy Sullivan at Pelham her eighth grade year.

While at Pelham, the team won three area championships in 2012, 2013, and 2014; two regional championships in 2013 and 2014, finished runner-up in the 2013 AHSAA 6A softball championship game and made an appearance in the 2014 AHSAA 6A championship tournament.

In the fall of 2014, Curtis transferred to the new Helena High School. She had plans to play softball her junior year for Coach Heidi Kouveras, but was unable to compete due to sustaining a knee injury, requiring surgery, just prior to the start of the season.

Curtis has since recovered from her injury and is looking forward to finally getting to play for the Helena Huskies this upcoming 2016 season.

In addition to high school softball, Curtis has played year round for eight years on the Birmingham Vipers travel ball team, which is coached by Gene Ingram and Martin Collins.
