NORTH SHELBY – After dropping three games in a row at the beginning of the season, the Spain Park basketball Lady Jaguars got back on track on Nov. 25 with a convincing win over Columbia to go into Thanksgiving Break on a high note. In their first game back from the break, Spain Park traveled to Oak Mountain, the teams’ fifth-straight road game after starting the season with a home win against Minor on Nov. 17, and beat their in-county rival by a final of 56-42.

Oak Mountain came into the game with a 4-4 record, trying to get back above .500 for the first time since Nov. 17. It was not meant to be on this night, as Spain Park blitzed the home team in the first quarter, pouring in 31 first-quarter points to take a commanding 31-9 lead that Oak Mountain never came close to digging itself out of. Skyla Knight had seven points in the opening quarter while Bailey Bowers, Elizabeth Philpot and Claire Holt each had six in the opening quarter, all off of three-point shots, to build the insurmountable lead.

Oak Mountain pushed back slightly in the second quarter behind the scoring efforts of Cassady Greenwood, who had nine in the second period, but still went into the half trailing 39-23, and the Lady Eagles were not able to truly chip into the lead the rest of the way, as Spain Park got its third win of the season.

Spain Park moved to 3-4 with the win while Oak Mountain fell to 4-5.
