PELHAM— The Pelham Police Department warned residents of a telephone scam in a Dec. 8 Facebook post. The caller is claiming to be raising funds for the police department and asked for credit card information, according to the post.

“Pelham PD does not solicit funds for itself; we are fully funded by the city of Pelham,” the post read. “The only time we ask for donations is to support one of the charities that we are associated with. At no time, will Pelham PD have someone call and ask for a donation and request any sort of credit card information or checking account information.”

The post also states that the scam sounds similar to other telephone scams that have been detected in other neighboring cities.
