Alabaster purchases $405,000 in equipment for city departments

ALABASTER – Several Alabaster city departments soon will have new items ranging from a Chevrolet Tahoe to a dump truck after the City Council agreed to purchase nearly $405,000 in new equipment for the departments.

During its Dec. 7 meeting, the council voted unanimously to purchase the new equipment for the city’s Environmental Services, Parks and Recreation, Police and Fire departments.

Funding for the items was already included in each department’s 2016 fiscal year budget, city leaders said.

Alabaster City Manager George Henry said the purchases will help to replace aging equipment at the departments, and will outfit some of the equipment with items such as emergency lighting.

For the Environmental Services Department, the council voted to purchase from an approved bid list the following equipment:

-A $41,458 Ford F250 diesel four-wheel-drive pickup truck

-A $43,538 Ford F250 pickup truck with a Knapheide package

-An $85,531 six-wheel sludge dump truck

-A $13,920 sludge dump truck body

-A $61,779.37 T650 Bobcat with a trailer

-A $9,979 Miller Bobcat 250 diesel welder

-A $12,808.11 John Deere XUV all-terrain vehicle

For the Parks and Recreation Department, the council voted to accept a $24,428.73 bid from the Jacobsen company to purchase a 4-yard sweeper, and voted to accept a $47,445 bid from the Maynard Equipment company to purchase five 60-inch zero-turn lawnmowers.

The City Council voted unanimously to accept an $8,819.86 bid from Haynes Lighting to purchase patrol car emergency lighting for the Alabaster Police Department. The council also accepted a $4,056 bid from Haynes Lighting to purchase emergency lighting for an administrative police vehicle.

For the city’s Fire Department, the council voted to purchase from an approved bid list the following equipment:

-An $11,000 all-terrain Kubota rapid response unit

-A $3,580 all-terrain emergency response unit

-A 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe for $37,600.53
