Lady Warriors defeat Spain Park

Josh Golden’s Thompson Lady Warriors basketball team has gotten off to a very strong start in 2015. Thompson is currently ranked as the No. 3 team in class 7A and after beating Spain Park by 21 points on Dec. 11, advanced to 9-1. Jordan LeNoir had 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead the way for Thompson while Indiah Cohill and Azariah Jackson had 11 points apiece. Claire Holt had 14 for Spain Park, which dropped to 5-4 with the loss.

 

Vincent beats Thorsby easily

The Yellow Jackets advanced to 7-2 on the season with an easy 68-41 victory over Thorsby on Dec. 11. Vincent, which is ranked as the No. 4 team in class 2A, had four players in double figures on the night and was led by Wesley King’s 16 points and six rebounds. Terrell Calhoun, Zavien Kelley and Josef Greene each contributed 10 points as well.

 

Pelham almost doubles-up Chelsea

After heading into the half up just eight points, Pelham manhandled the host team in the second half, and held Chelsea to just 10 total second half points. Alex Reese put up 24 points and eight rebounds for Pelham while Justin Allison had 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. Aaron Washington led Chelsea with 12 while Matt Marquet added 11 for the Hornets.

 

Lady Panthers pull away from Hornets

Jamilia Wilson poured in 31 points for Pelham as the Lady Panthers got past Chelsea on the road by a final of 62-45. In the first quarter Pelham opened up a 17-5 lead and never looked back as the Lady Panthers won their third game of the season and snapped an eight-game losing streak.

 

Warriors fall to Spain Park

In a showdown of two top-10 teams in class 7A, the No. 7 Thompson Warriors traveled to take on the top-ranked Spain Park Jaguars. Spain Park turned away Thompson by a final of 70-48. The Jaguars’ superior size was a key factor in the win as Thompson fell to 5-4 while Spain Park advanced to 7-3.

 

Oak Mountain loses tight game to Vestavia

Just 24 hours after hanging 61 points on Chelsea and getting its fifth win of the season, Oak Mountain was back in action on Dec. 11 on the road against Vestavia. The Eagles lost a tight, defensive contest by a final of 32-30 to fall to 5-5 on the season.

 

Dec. 12

Spain Park beats Gadsden City

The 7A No. 1 Jaguars defeated Gadsden City in their closest win of the year by a final of 78-74 on Dec. 12. Austin Wiley led the way for Spain Park with 33 points, 25 rebounds and eight blocks while Jamal Johnson had 19 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Justin Brown also added 14 points and seven rebounds as the Jaguars advanced to 8-3.
