MONTEVALLO – The Pelham Lady Panthers lost to 7A No. 3 Thompson 57-38 in the first round of the Shelby County Tournament at Montevallo High School. On Monday, Pelham defeated Vincent in the play in game and to advanced to play #1 seed Thompson.

In an earlier matchup between the two teams, Thompson defeated Pelham 69-19. “Tonight was a big improvement from the last time we played them,” said Lady Panthers Head coach Adam Brown. “I was really proud of our effort from start to finish tonight.”

In the first quarter, the Panthers took an early 2-0 lead on a Jordan Allison layup with 7:27 left in the quarter. Thompson went on a 7-0 run to go up 9-2 with 4:40 left in the quarter. In the Warrior run, Jordan Lenoir scored 4 points and Azariah Jackson hit a 3-pointer. Thompson led 15-11 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Daniela Ramirez scored on a layup to trip the Warriors lead to 15-13 with 7:05l eft in the half. With 6:10 left in the quarter, Brittney Grice scored on a layup to give Thompson a 17-13 lead. With 4:19 left in the quarter, Indiah Cohill hit a 3-pointer for Thompson and a 22-13 Warrior lead. The Warriors later went on a 9-0 run with Lenoir capping the run with 1:07 left in the half and Thompson led 31-16. With :44 seconds left in the half, Jamila Wilson and Allison hit late shots to pull the Lady Panthers back to within 11 at the half.

Pelham pulled the game to within 10 points at one point in the third quarter, but Thompson pulled the first round game out without much of an issue.

For Thompson, Lenoir scored 14 points and Cohill had 10 points for the Warriors. For Pelham, Allison had 14 points, 4 assists & 3 steals, Wilson had 11 points & four rebounds, Ramirez had 6 points & 6 rebounds and Toniya Person scored 4 points for the Panthers.
