UPDATE: One fatality confirmed in Shelby accident

SHELBY— A two-vehicle accident, at the intersection of Alabama 145 and County Road 42, resulted in one confirmed fatality, according to Alabama State Trooper Chuck Daniel.

The accident took place at 5:45 a.m. on Dec. 17 when a 2002 Chevrolet pickup collided with a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. Sixty-nine-year-old William Dallas Murray, of Shelby, was driving the 2002 Chevy, and 21-year-old Christopher Wayne Smith, of Prattville, was driving the 1999 model.

Daniel reported that Murray was not wearing his seatbelt when the incident occurred and was pronounced dead on the scene. Smith had no injuries according to the report.

Alabama State Troopers are still investigating the accident, and more information will be posted as it is released.
